Comments: I am a friend of Malcolm Leland, a former member of VMB-433. He has told me many stories of your squadrons raids on Rabaul. He was known then as Lt Malcolm McGuchin, the VMB-433 Camouflage Officer, the fellow who designed your squadron logo. After the war, Malcolm worked in New York and later moved to California, where he became in order a potter and then sculptor. He is well known in the San Diego area as a Mid-Century Modern architectural sculptor, working with Richard Neutra, a world famous architect. Mr. Neutra, in 1977, was awarded posthumously the American Institute of Architecture Gold Medal. Mr. Neutra hired Malcolm in 1957. Malcolm settled in Potrero,California and about 4 years ago moved to Scottsdale.
I didn't fully appreciate the danger of the raids on Rabaul until I read the book "Fortress Rabaul" by Bruce Gamble.

Comments: My mum recently came to live with me and I was going through some old photos and came across one for E.J. Madden, S.Sgt APU. I googled his name and came up with your site. My mum is from London and was formerly Jean Hiscox. She worked for the Americans in their London HQ's.

Comments: Great website! I have always wanted to find out where and when my uncle, James R. Morton, served. I was given, by him, a display containing his 433 insignia, 2 pictures (one with the B-25 #302), service metals etc. If there is any of his air crew or anyone that knew him during his service, it would be great to hear about his time in the Pacific. Thank you for your service.

Comments: I am sorry have to report the passing of the late Frederick P. Crocker, Capt, USMCR, who passed last year on 2 May 2010. Grandpa Fred appeared to me as a humble man, who devoted every available minute to the welfare of his family. He also started the honorable tradition of every able-bodied male in the family volunteering for military service! If there is anyone that has any stories to relay, I'd love to hear them! V/R Tim

Comments: I just found your web site and how I wish Pop was here to see it. My dad is Jack H. Mackey, Master Technical Sgt. He passed away Dec. 26, 1994. He had planned on attending the 1993 reunion (even re-grew his handlebar moustache for the occasion) but poor health kept him away. He talked often about the good things that happened during the war - the "old man", Whiskey. Thank you for doing our Greatest Generation justice. Thank you to all that served.

Comments: I am Maj. Fredrick A. Murchall's son-in-law. I was pleased to locate this site as the family had no idea Fred flew bombers in WWII. We were well aware he flew Saber jets in Korea but his WWII history was long lost as he died very young (35) during the Korean conflict. If there is anyone out there who knew Fred the family would love to hear any memories. Thanks to all of you who served in WWII. You are truly the greatest generation.

Comments: My great uncle, Leo Stanley Pralat, was with this unit. I'm currently in Manila and going to visit his marker tomorrow, I stumbled across this site while looking for where his marker was. It's a great site for squadron history, if anyone has any memories or pictures of Leo I'd love to know, he went down on 9/11/44 and remains MIA.
